Are you looking for a high-quality voltage transformer? With our in-house brand Offgridtec, we place the highest priority on using only high-quality components to be able to supply our customers with reliable and durable products. In our online shop you will find, among other things, Offgridtec voltage converters with 12V and 24V to 230V. You are sure to find the right model for you.

Voltage transformers: mode of operation and areas of application

A voltage converter, also called an inverter, transforms the signal (or waveform) of an electrical voltage from direct current to alternating current. Thus, any electronic device can be easily charged with alternating current.

Voltage converters are important because a battery can only store electrical energy in the form of direct current. The electricity grid, on the other hand, supplies alternating current (230 or 400V). With an inverter, various electrical devices can be supplied with alternating current from any direct current source, such as a battery.

Inverters are mainly used on boats and in motor homes, but also more and more at home, in order to be able to use the electricity produced by wind turbines or solar modules.

FAQ

  1. What does a voltage transformer do? A voltage converter transforms the signal of an electrical voltage from direct current to alternating current. This allows various electrical devices to be supplied with alternating current from any direct current source, such as a battery.
  2. What is the difference between a voltage converter and an inverter? The terms voltage converter and inverter both refer to a device that can convert electrical voltage from direct current to alternating current. They are used synonymously.
  3. How long does a battery with a voltage converter last?
Example calculation for a 100Ah battery:
A voltage converter uses about 115% of the energy you need, which is about 70 watts. The battery should be discharged to a maximum of 50%. Accordingly, you have 0.5 x 100Ah x 12 volts = 600 watt-hours available. If this is the only consumption, your battery will therefore have 600/70 = 8.5 hours of runtime.
  4. When do you need a voltage converter? Voltage converters convert electrical energy from direct current to alternating current. This is necessary because batteries can only store energy in the form of direct current. The electricity grid, on the other hand, supplies alternating current. Accordingly, the energy from batteries or other direct current sources must be converted to make it usable for electrical devices.
