The SmartSwitch from Energy Solutions (MPN: SMARTSWITCH-DC4) is a configurable DC switching and control module for integrating DC loads into Victron GX systems. Four channels enable centralized control and monitoring of loads such as lighting, fans, pumps, or other DC devices. The module is integrated into the Victron system environment via the CAN interface, allowing the connected circuits to be managed together with the rest of the system components. It supports operation in 12- or 24-V systems and features current monitoring, configurable overcurrent protection, and thermal protection functions. Depending on the configuration, channels can not only switch loads but also receive digital signals from switches, push buttons, and simple contacts. The SmartSwitch is specifically designed for integration into Victron-based installations using Cerbo GX or the GX environment.

Four channels for various control tasks
The SmartSwitch DC4 integrates the control of individual DC circuits into the central Victron system environment. Instead of operating loads exclusively via separate mechanical switches and additional relay configurations, the circuits can be integrated, labeled, and organized through the switching module. Three basic operating modes are available for output channels:
Latching: The output is turned on or off and maintains its respective switching state.
Momentary: The output is active only as long as the corresponding button is pressed. This operating mode is therefore suitable for functions that require push-button operation.
Dimming: PWM control is used for compatible lamps or lighting. The datasheet specifies a pulse width modulation frequency of 120 Hz for this purpose.
Integration into Victron GX via VE.Can
The primary purpose of the SmartSwitch DC4 is integration into Victron-based systems. The CAN interface features two RJ45 ports and thus supports CAN daisy-chaining. The connected circuits can then be managed via the GX interface. In the device menu of the GX system, you can configure, among other things, the module name, channel label, group assignment, operating mode, and fuse rating. Setup requires firmware version v3.60 or higher on the Victron GX device.
Compatibility and Applications
The SmartSwitch DC4 is specifically designed for Victron GX-based installations. Energy Solutions specifically mentions Cerbo GX as a system component for integration. Other applications include marine, RV/camper, automotive, and off-grid systems. Typical switchable loads include, for example:
- DC lighting
- Fans and blowers
- Water pumps
- Refrigerators
- Other suitable DC auxiliary loads
The module is designed for DC distribution and load control in watercraft and road vehicles; however, it should not be used in road vehicles while the vehicle is in motion. Furthermore, the SmartSwitch is expressly not intended for safety-critical applications.
Connection and Installation
Installation is performed using two mounting holes with a diameter of 4.3 mm. M4 screws or No. 6 self-tapping screws can be used for this purpose. The dimensional drawing on page 3 of the data sheet shows a maximum housing width of approximately 118 mm and a housing height of 75 mm, plus the connection areas. Two RJ45 connectors are available for communication. The four channels are connected via a pluggable terminal block, while a separate pluggable connector is provided for the DC power supply.
