Types of solar batteries

These differ mainly in their electrolyte fluid and the way they are constructed. Depending on the area of use, batteries have different ampere-hours and electrical voltages, the latter usually being between 12V and 24V. The current strength, i.e. the ampere hours, on the other hand, vary more:
- 100ah, 120ah and 200ah for lower demand
- 280ah, 300ah, 400ah and 500ah for higher demand

- Which is the best solar battery? That depends on what it is to be used for. In principle, the lithium-ion solar battery is a popular choice due to its service life and performance. For boats and ships, however, an AGM or gel battery is more suitable, as these types are very leak-proof.
- Which batteries are suitable for solar systems? Lithium-ion solar batteries, gel solar batteries and AGM solar batteries are particularly suitable for solar systems.
- What is the service life of a solar battery? How long a solar battery lasts always depends on its quality and the technology used. Lead storage batteries usually last about 5-15 years, whereas lithium storage batteries last about 10-15 years.
- How big does my solar battery need to be? To find out, multiply the total daily power requirement (watt hours) by the number of days you want the system to function without sunlight. Then add 30% capacity reserve to get the required battery capacity in watt-hours. If this value is now divided by the battery voltage (V), you get the required battery capacity in ampere-hours. Please note that batteries may only be discharged up to a certain value. (e.g. AGM batteries up to max. 50% → required battery capacity x2).
