The TPM-6CTA-C-100 electricity meter from Growatt (MPN: TPM-6CTA-C-100) is a three-phase smart meter designed for the precise measurement of energy flows in photovoltaic systems. Thanks to external clamp-on current transformers (CTs), an RS485 interface, and Modbus RTU communication, the meter is particularly well-suited for integration into Growatt inverter systems. It enables reliable monitoring of energy consumption as well as feed-in and purchased power and supports functions such as self-consumption optimization and export limitation. It is installed in a space-saving manner on a DIN rail.

Function and Application
The electricity meter continuously measures the electrical parameters of a three-phase power grid. The recorded values are transmitted via the integrated RS485 interface using Modbus RTU to a compatible Growatt inverter. This allows the energy management system to evaluate current power consumption or feed-in and control various smart functions. It is suitable for both new photovoltaic systems and retrofitting existing systems. Since current measurement is performed via flip-open current transformers, the existing conductors do not need to be disconnected in many cases, which simplifies installation.
Compatibility
The Smart Meter was developed to work with compatible three-phase Growatt inverters. It serves as an external measurement unit for recording energy flow and is particularly needed for applications involving functions such as:
- self-consumption optimization,
- export or feed-in limitation,
- load monitoring, or
- detailed energy monitoring
are to be utilized.
Current Measurement with Clamp-On Current Transformers
It operates with external current transformers (CTs). These measure current non-contact via the conductor’s magnetic field and enable safe measurement of high currents without requiring the load current to pass directly through the meter. The included current transformers are rated for applications up to 100 A and have an inner diameter of 16 mm. This measurement principle is particularly well-suited for retrofits, as the conductors simply need to be routed through the open current transformer and then closed again.
