Kemo M204 power controller 230 V, max. 16 A for heaters

The Kemo M204 (MPN M204) is a 230V power controller with a maximum of 16A for heaters. It controls resistive loads such as heaters, etc. with zero-crossing pulses without the need for additional interference suppression. Control is achieved by switching the power on and off in pulses. Therefore, it is only suitable for heaters (heating plates, welding rods, thermal welding machines, ovens, etc.). Not suitable for motors and lamps, as these would stutter or flicker.

Circuit description

Depending on the position of the potentiometer, the module switches the heating on and off, always at phase zero crossing. The switching frequency is approx. 0.8 Hz. The length of the switch-on phases depends on the position of the control potentiometer. Controller position on the left: long switch-on phases and higher heating power.

Important installation instructions:

Depending on the load, the module may heat up during operation. It must therefore be installed in a well-ventilated location. If the metal housing of the module heats up to over 60°C, it must either be screwed onto an additional heat sink or cooled with a small fan. However, this should not be necessary in well-ventilated normal operation up to 1000W. The module may only be installed by a qualified person (e.g., an electrician) in accordance with VDE safety regulations. It is essential to ensure that there is no possibility of the live contacts being touched with the fingers. The potentiometer is fully insulated on the operating shaft and on the mounting thread. It must be installed in such a way that only the insulated operating shaft can be touched and not the electrical connection pins. In addition, a fuse must be installed upstream in accordance with the drawing. The cables to the module must be secured against unintentional removal (strain relief).
