The Victron Battery Protect BP-48-100 (MPN BPR048100400) disconnects the battery from less important consumers before it is completely discharged (which would damage it) or before it no longer has sufficient energy to start the engine, etc. In addition, the BP series has overvoltage protection that disconnects the load in the event of overvoltage and protects it from damage. The BP supports AGM, lead-acid, gel, and lithium batteries. Under no circumstances should an inverter be connected to the Victron Battery-Protect BP-48-100!
6 different shutdown thresholds can be set
The Battery Protect is very flexible and can be set to different shutdown voltages. The exact values can be found in the operating instructions for this item.
In addition, there are different restart thresholds for most shutdown thresholds that can be selected. This makes this device the perfect protective device for your battery and ensures maximum service life, because although most voltage converters or charge controllers have undervoltage protection, this only kicks in at fairly low values, usually in the range of 10.5V / 21V. The higher this shutdown threshold, the longer you will enjoy your batteries, which are usually quite expensive.
Selecting the cut-off threshold
Depending on the battery type, different minimum battery voltages apply that must be maintained in order not to damage the battery. For AGM/gel batteries, we recommend setting the Batteryprotect to a 11.5V shutdown threshold. For lithium batteries (LifePo4), a 12.0V shutdown threshold is recommended. Depending on the intended use of the battery, it may be necessary to change these limits. Manufacturers also provide different information about their batteries. Therefore, always check with the battery manufacturer to find out which cut-off threshold is right for your battery!
Summary of key product features
- For 48V battery banks
- 6 different cut-off voltages selectable
- 100A maximum continuous current
- Easy programming and status display of settings via seven-segment display
- Extra mode for lithium batteries – in this mode, the BP can be controlled by the VE.Bus BMS
- Very low power consumption
- Explosion protection through integrated MOSFET switches that replace the relays and thus reduce the risk of sparking to zero
- Integrated alarm output
Output for delayed alarm
The alarm output is activated when the battery voltage falls below the preset shutdown value for more than 12 seconds. Starting the engine therefore does not activate the alarm. The alarm output is a short-circuit-protected open collector output connected to the negative (minus) rail. Max. current 50 mA. The alarm output is normally used to activate an acoustic signal, an LED, or a relay.
Load shutdown and reconnection delay
The load is disconnected 90 seconds after the alarm is activated. If the battery voltage rises again to the reconnection threshold value within this period (for example, after the motor has been started), the load is not disconnected. The load is reconnected 30 seconds after the battery voltage has exceeded the specified reconnection voltage value.
