With a charging current of 12A, it is perfectly suited for charging 24V AGM, gel, and lead-acid batteries as well as lithium-ion batteries. The 5-stage adaptive charging algorithm automatically ensures optimal battery performance. The features of the Blue Smart IP67 series extend those of the IP65 and IP22 series by adding broader application possibilities, as it is dustproof and protected against temporary submersion in water. The integrated Bluetooth provides a wireless solution for monitoring voltage and current, adjusting settings, and updating the charger when new functions become available. In addition, this model includes a third brown wire serving as a signal output (Si), allowing connection to an external device such as a relay, indicating when the charger is active.

Adaptive 5-Stage Charging Algorithm

The Blue Smart charger features a microprocessor-controlled “adaptive” battery management system. “Adaptive” means the charging process automatically adjusts to the way the battery is used.

Bulk (constant current phase) – The battery is first charged with maximum current. Once the configured absorption voltage is reached, the charging process is optimally adjusted.
Absorption (constant voltage phase) – The battery is charged at the configured absorption voltage. The charging current gradually decreases as the battery approaches full charge.
Recondition (recovery phase) – The charger raises the battery voltage to the configured reconditioning voltage. The output current is automatically limited to 8% of the rated charging current (for example, max. 1.2 A for a 15A charger).
Float (maintenance phase) – The battery voltage is maintained at the set float voltage to prevent discharge. Once the float phase begins, the battery is fully charged and ready for use.
Storage (storage mode) – The battery voltage is set to the configured storage voltage, slightly lower than the float voltage. This minimizes gassing and extends the battery’s lifespan while remaining unused and continuously maintained.

Overheat Protection and Recovery Function

The charger is ideal for use in hot environments, such as engine rooms. At temperatures up to 60°C, the output current is automatically reduced to ensure reliable operation without failure. It can also begin charging even when the battery is completely discharged to zero volts. Additionally, it reliably reconnects to a fully discharged lithium-ion battery with an integrated disconnect function.

Storage Mode

This mode is activated when the battery has not been discharged within 24 hours. In this mode, the charging voltage is reduced to 26.4 V/cell to minimize gassing and corrosion on the positive plates. Once per week, the voltage is briefly raised to perform an equalization charge, effectively preventing electrolyte stratification and sulfation – the main causes of premature battery failure.

App Usage and Monitoring

The charger features integrated Bluetooth for quick and easy setup. Using the VictronConnect app on your smartphone or tablet, you can make advanced settings, comprehensively monitor your devices, and easily perform firmware updates. Integrated charging presets can also be conveniently selected via the app. The adaptive charging logic is ideal for common battery types such as LiFePO4, AGM, gel, and lead-acid. In addition, advanced configurations with user-defined settings can be made.
