The Victron BMV 702 Black (MPN BAM010702200R) is a powerful battery monitor with extensive monitoring and configuration capabilities. Via the VE.Direct communication port, all BMV 70x devices can be controlled and monitored (remotely) using, for example, the Color Control GX Panel.

Compared to the BMV 700, the Black 702 can monitor two battery banks simultaneously. It also supports center-voltage monitoring, as is common in industrial applications to protect large battery banks. It is the only battery monitor in this price range that offers this feature.

A damaged cell or battery can destroy an entire large, expensive battery bank. When batteries are connected in series, measuring the center-point voltage allows for a timely warning to be generated. You can learn more about center-point voltage further down in the description.

Summary of Key Product Features

  • Display of battery voltage, current, power, amp-hours consumed, and state of charge
  • Remaining runtime at current discharge rate
  • Programmable visual and audible alarm
  • Programmable relay to shut off non-essential loads or start a generator as needed.
  • A 500-amp quick-connect shunt and a connection kit are included
  • Shunt capacities up to 10,000 amps are available as an option
  • VE.Direct communication port
  • Stores a wide range of historical data that can be used to evaluate usage patterns and battery health.
  • Wide input voltage range: 9.5 – 95 V
  • High current measurement resolution: 10 mA (0.01 A)
  • Low power consumption: 2.9 Ah per month (4 mA) at 12 V and 2.2 Ah per month (3 mA) at 24 V

Battery “fuel gauge,” remaining capacity indicator, and much more

The remaining battery capacity depends on the amp-hours consumed, the discharge current, the temperature, and the age of the battery. Complex software algorithms are required to account for all these variables.

In addition to basic display options such as voltage, current, and amp-hours consumed, the BMV-700 series also displays the state of charge, remaining runtime, and power consumption in watts.

The BMV-702 features an additional input that can be programmed to measure voltage (of a second battery), temperature, or center-point voltage (see below).

Compatible with VE.Direct, Bluetooth Smart Dongle, and Color Control GX

With the Bluetooth Smart Dongle, you can monitor your batteries using an Apple or Android smartphone, tablet, MacBook, or other devices—simply via a Bluetooth connection! The dongle is not included.

Easy Programming (with Your Smartphone!)

A quick-install menu and a detailed setup menu with scrolling help guide the user through the various settings. Alternatively, you can use a quick and easy solution: simply download the smartphone app (Bluetooth Smart Dongle required)

Center-Point Voltage Monitoring (BMV-702 only)

This feature, which is frequently used in industry to monitor large and costly battery banks, is now available for the first time at a more affordable price, allowing any battery bank to be monitored.

A battery bank consists of a string of cells connected in series. The midpoint voltage is the voltage at the midpoint of the string. Ideally, the midpoint voltage is exactly half the total voltage. In practice, however, deviations occur. These depend on numerous factors, such as varying states of charge in new batteries or cells, different temperatures, internal leakage currents, capacities, and many others.

Large or increasing deviations in the midpoint voltage indicate improper battery maintenance or a defective battery or cell. Corrective action taken in response to a midpoint voltage alarm can prevent serious damage to an expensive battery. Please also refer to the manual for further information.

Additional Features of the BMV-702
