Smart battery monitoring

The SmartShunt 1000a from Victron Energy (mpn SHU050210050) is an all-in-one battery monitor. It connects via Bluetooth to the VictronConnect app on your phone (or tablet) and you can conveniently read out all monitored battery parameters, such as state of charge, remaining runtime, history information and much more. Settings can also be easily changed via it.

Alternatively, the SmartShunt can be connected and read by a GX device. The connection to the SmartShunt is made via a VE.Direct cable.

The SmartShunt is a good alternative for a BMV battery monitor, especially for systems where battery monitoring is required but less wiring and mess is desired.

Why is battery monitoring important?

Batteries are used in versatile applications, in most cases to store energy for later use. However, the battery itself does not indicate the amount of energy stored.

Battery life depends on many factors. Undercharging, overcharging, deep discharging, excessive charging or discharging currents and high ambient temperature can shorten the operating time. Monitoring with a battery monitor gives the user important feedback to take countermeasures to extend battery life if necessary.
