Smart battery monitoring
The SmartShunt 2000A from Victron Energy (MPN SHU050220050) is an all-in-one battery monitor. It connects via Bluetooth to the VictronConnect app on your phone (or tablet), allowing you to conveniently read all monitored battery parameters, such as state of charge, remaining runtime, historical information, and much more. Settings can also be easily changed via the app.
Alternatively, the SmartShunt can be connected and read by a GX device. The connection to the SmartShunt is made via a VE.Direct cable.
The SmartShunt is a good alternative to a BMV battery monitor, especially for systems where battery monitoring is required but less cabling and clutter is desired.

Why is battery monitoring important?
Batteries are used in a wide range of applications, in most cases to store energy for later use. However, the battery itself does not indicate the amount of energy stored.
The service life of batteries depends on many factors. Undercharging or overcharging, deep discharge, excessive charging or discharging currents, and high ambient temperatures can shorten the operating time. Monitoring with a battery monitor provides the user with important feedback so that countermeasures can be taken to extend the battery life if necessary.
