The VCC 1212-70 CI from Votronic (MPN: 3362) is a fully automatic 12V-to-12V B2B (battery-to-battery) charging converter designed to optimally charge onboard and service batteries while driving. It was developed specifically for motorhomes, specialty vehicles, and boats, and ensures reliable, battery-friendly charging even in modern Euro 6 vehicles with regulated alternators. It supports lead-acid, gel, AGM, and LiFePO4 batteries.

Optimal charging even with modern alternators

Many modern vehicles reduce the alternator’s charging voltage to save fuel and reduce emissions. As a result, the auxiliary battery is often no longer fully charged. The converter compensates for these fluctuations, converts the input voltage into a stable charging voltage, and charges the vehicle battery using a charging curve tailored to the battery type. This ensures that the available battery capacity is utilized more effectively, even on short trips.

Suitable for various battery technologies

The charging converter supports various battery types and features several selectable charging programs. In addition to traditional lead-acid, gel, and AGM batteries, modern LiFePO4 batteries can also be charged safely. For lithium batteries, the device takes into account the requirements of an existing battery management system (BMS) and offers special protective functions, including protection against charging at impermissibly low temperatures. An included temperature sensor also enables temperature monitoring of the onboard battery.

Gentle Charging and High Reliability

The multi-stage IUoU charging algorithm first ensures rapid main charging, followed by a full charge and trickle charging. Loads connected in parallel are supplied directly during the charging process without negatively affecting the charging process. At the same time, the integrated reverse current block prevents the starter battery from discharging during idle operation. Another advantage is the integrated trickle charging of the starter battery. If additional energy is available, the VCC 1212-70 CI can support the starter battery with a trickle current of up to 5 A, thereby compensating for its self-discharge.

Flexible Activation and Extensive Connection Options

Charging can be initiated automatically via the alternator’s D+ signal, via the ignition, or via voltage control. Additionally, connections are available for sensor wires for voltage measurement, remote controls, the LCD Charge Control S, the LED Remote Control S, and the Votronic CI-Bus or VBS2. This allows the charge converter to be easily integrated into and monitored within the existing onboard electrical system.
