This balcony power plant from Offgridtec offers a high-performance solution with a total output of 940W, allowing you to generate part of your household’s electricity needs yourself. This can significantly reduce the costs of your total electricity consumption. The system consists of two high-quality Trina Solar solar modules, each with an output of 470W, featuring state-of-the-art technology. To boost efficiency, the set includes an HMS-800W-2T microinverter from Hoymiles. The kit also includes a 10-meter Hoymiles connection cable with a field connector for easy installation.
How does a balcony power plant work?
The Offgridtec balcony power plant is a space-saving solar system consisting of a solar panel and a matching Hoymiles microinverter to feed the generated electricity into your home’s electrical grid. The inverter is ideally mounted directly on the solar panel’s mounting structure and connected to the panel via the solar connector. The 10-meter connection cable is connected via the inverter’s battery port and routed directly to the appropriate outlet. No special configuration is required to use the generated solar power in the home’s electrical grid. If electricity from other sources is available in the home, it is used preferentially and supplemented by grid power as needed.
The Balcony Power Plant Complete System includes:
- 2x Trina Solar 470W Vertex S+ double-glass N-type TopCon solar modules
- 1x Hoymiles HMS-800W-2T microinverter
- 1x 10m connection cable for Hoymiles HMS microinverter
Trina Solar 470W Vertex S+ Dual-Glass N-Type TopCon
The Vertex S+ from Trina Solar (MPN: TSM-470-NEG9R.28) is a high-performance 470W double-glass solar module that is ideally suited for both residential and commercial applications. Thanks to modern technologies such as high-density cell interconnection, the gaps between the solar cells are minimized, allowing more sunlight to be utilized. Multi-busbar and N-type i-TOPCon technology further ensures higher light conversion efficiency, lower energy losses, and improved current conduction.

Hoymiles HMS-800W-2T
The HMS-800W-2T (MPN: HMS-800W-2T) from Hoymiles is the perfect microinverter for your balcony power plant. In addition to the integrated industrial-grade WiFi module mentioned here, this compact, lightweight unit (weighing just 3.2 kg) is ideal for solar power generation with up to two solar panels, each with an output of 320 to 540+ W. Just like all other microinverters from Hoymiles, it is suitable for long operating hours and a wide range of PV module applications, as its start-up voltage is very low (only 22V) and the DC input range of the operating voltage (16–60V) is extremely wide.
Features
- Integrated WiFi module
- Minimization of the effects of, for example, shading, dust, or aging through MPPT
- High-quality energy generation with high MPPT accuracy
- Optimal system reliability
- Peak efficiency of 96.7%
- High safety thanks to integrated protection functions
- 12-year product warranty – you can find information on the warranty terms here
- Easy installation
- Long service life
- Complies with VDE-AR-N 4105: 2018, EN 50549-1: 2019, VFR 2019, IEC/EN 62109-1/-2, IEC/EN 61000-6-1/-2/-3/-4, IEC/EN 61000-3-2/-3
Optimal reliability
Micro-inverter systems are inherently more reliable than conventional inverters. The decentralized design of a micro-inverter system ensures that a fault in one unit does not cause the entire PV system to fail. Hoymiles micro-inverters are designed for full-power operation at ambient temperatures of up to +65°C (150°F). The micro-inverter’s housing is designed for outdoor installation and meets IP67 protection standards.

Balcony Power Plants in Germany
Currently, there is no law or regulation in Germany governing the generation of solar power for personal use only. The limit of a maximum of 600W AC PV power is a reserve value that, according to the current VDE standard, can be fed into an existing outlet circuit in a home without overloading it. There are no specifications for independent circuits without additional load. Every electrical installation should be carried out in accordance with VDE standards. However, operating a balcony power plant via a standard GFCI outlet is not generally prohibited. Registration with the Federal Network Agency is mandatory. However, there are currently no known cases of fines for failure to register balcony power plants, nor are there any insurmountable issues with grid operators. Compliance with and implementation of standards and obligations is the responsibility of the system operator. A wealth of technical and legal information on this topic is already available on relevant websites.
