¹ Should it later turn out that eligibility for the zero tax rate does not or did not exist, the actual tax rate of 19% (Germany) or 20% (Austria) will be applied, and the resulting difference will be charged back to the customer. The outstanding VAT amount is due immediately.

Background information:

Germany's federal government has enacted significant tax relief in the German VAT Act (Section 12 (3) UStG) for operators of photovoltaic systems and components for such systems. This applies both to the income tax due on the sale of the electricity generated and to the VAT on the purchase, delivery, and installation of photovoltaic systems and battery storage.

Austria's federal government had also announced a similar tax relief:

"The plan is that, from January 1, 2024, the purchase of PV modules up to 35 kWp, their accessories, and storage systems, as well as their installation, will be exempt from VAT, provided the PV system is operated on or near certain buildings (buildings used for residential purposes, buildings used by public-law corporations, or buildings serving charitable, benevolent, or ecclesiastical purposes)."
