Offgridtec’s complete balcony power plant systems offer an excellent opportunity to generate some of your household electricity yourself and thus significantly reduce electricity costs. The Solar-Direct solar system comes fully equipped with state-of-the-art components. In addition to two state-of-the-art Luxen Solar 450W Black Frame solar modules from the N5 series, each with an output of 450W, the package includes the HMS-800-2WB microinverter from Hoymiles. The system is rounded out with all the necessary cables for connecting the balcony power plant to the home’s electrical grid.
How does a balcony power plant work?
The Offgridtec balcony power plant is a compact solar system. It consists of one or more solar modules and the matching Hoymiles microinverter for feeding power into the home’s electrical grid. The inverter is ideally mounted directly on the solar module’s mounting frame and connected to the solar module using MC4 connectors. The AC cable is connected via the inverter’s battery port and routed directly to the appropriate GFCI outlet. No special settings are required to use the generated solar power in the home’s electrical grid. If electricity from local sources is already available, household appliances will use that first and then supplement it with grid power as needed.
The Balcony Power Plant Complete System includes:

MC4 extension cable
2m 6mm² MC4 extension cable (equipped with MC4 plug and socket) featuring cross-linked solar cable from the leading cable manufacturer Lapp in Germany. The connectors themselves are also original German products from MultiContact. All ready-to-use cables are manufactured at our facility in Lower Bavaria.
We use high-quality specialized tools to ensure an extremely tensile-strong connection that withstands even the harshest conditions and remains unaffected by the elements over a very long period of time.
Applications
- Ideal for the flexible cabling of solar modules on different sides of the roof or in different rows
- For the parallel connection of solar modules
Benefits
- Plug and play—unpack and use; no specialized tools required
- Cross-linked solar cable (only two cable manufacturers in the world possess this technology)
- Available in various lengths and colors, making it suitable for almost any application

Balcony power plants in Germany
Currently, there is no law or regulation in Germany governing the generation of solar power for personal use only. The limit of a maximum 600W AC PV output is a reserve value that, according to the current VDE standard, can be fed into an existing outlet circuit in a home without overloading it. There are no specifications for independent circuits without additional load.
Every electrical installation should be carried out in accordance with VDE standards. However, operating a balcony power plant via a standard Schuko outlet is not prohibited in principle. Registration with the Federal Network Agency is mandatory. However, there are currently no known cases of fines for failure to register balcony power plants, nor are there any insurmountable problems with grid operators. Compliance with and implementation of standards and obligations is the responsibility of the system operator. A wealth of technical and legal information on this topic is already available on relevant websites.
