Adaptive 5-stage charging algorithm

The Blue Smart charger features microprocessor-controlled, "adaptive" battery management. "Adaptive" means that the charging process is automatically adjusted to the type of battery use.

"Bulk"(constant current phase) - The battery is first charged with maximum charging current. Once the configured absorption voltage is reached, the charging process is optimally adjusted.
"Absorption"(constant voltage phase) - The battery is charged with the configured absorption voltage. The charging current gradually decreases as the battery approaches its full charge.
"Recondition"(regeneration phase) - The charger increases the battery voltage to the configured recovery voltage. The output current is automatically limited to 8% of the nominal charging current (for example, a maximum of 1.2 A for a 15 A charger).
"Float"(float voltage phase) - The battery voltage is maintained at the set float voltage to prevent discharge. Once the float phase begins, the battery is fully charged and ready for use.
"Storage"(storage mode) - The battery voltage is set to the configured storage voltage, which is slightly lower than the float voltage. This minimizes gas formation and extends the life of the battery while it remains unused and continuously charged.

The battery charger sets a new benchmark in the industry: with an efficiency of 95%, it generates three to four times less heat. Once the battery is fully charged, power consumption drops to less than one watt, which is five to ten times more efficient than the industry standard.

The battery charger is ideal for use in hot environments, such as in an engine room. When temperatures rise to 60°C, the output current is automatically reduced so that the charger continues to operate reliably without failing. Furthermore, it begins the charging process even when the battery is completely discharged to zero volts. In addition, it reliably restores the connection to a completely discharged lithium-ion battery with an integrated disconnect function.

Storage mode

This is activated if the battery is not discharged within 24 hours. In this mode, the charging voltage is reduced to 2.2 V/cell to minimize gas formation and corrosion on the positive plates. Once a week, the voltage is briefly increased to perform an equalization charge. This effectively prevents electrolyte stratification and sulfation, the main causes of premature battery failure.

App usage and monitoring

The charger is equipped with integrated Bluetooth, which allows for quick and easy setup. With the VictronConnect app, you can configure advanced settings, comprehensively monitor your devices, and effortlessly perform firmware updates via your mobile phone or tablet. Integrated charging presets are also available, which you can conveniently select via the app. The adaptive charging logic is ideal for common battery types such as LiFePO4, AGM, gel, and lead-acid.
