Victron SmartSolar MPPT RS 450/200-MC4 48V Solar Charge Controller 200A
The Victron SmartSolar MPPT RS 450/200-MC4 (MPN: SCC145120512) is a galvanically isolated solar charge controller for high-power 48 V battery systems. Four separate MPP trackers allow for the connection of standalone PV arrays via pre-wired MC4 connectors. With a charging current of up to 200 A and a maximum DC output charging power of 11,520 W, the charge controller is suitable for larger off-grid and grid-tied battery systems. Configuration and monitoring are performed directly on the display, via Bluetooth using VictronConnect, or via the wired interfaces.
High charging power with four MPP trackers
- Up to 200 A charging current for 48-V battery systems
- Maximum DC charging output of 11,520 W
- Four separate MPP trackers, each with a pair of MC4 connectors
- Galvanic isolation between PV and battery connections
- Integrated display and Bluetooth for VictronConnect
- VE.Direct and VE.Can for system integration and synchronized parallel operation
Separate PV inputs for flexible system design
Each of the four MPP trackers operates with its own PV array (a group of electrically connected solar modules). This allows separate module fields to be monitored individually, for example, when orientation, tilt, or irradiance conditions differ. Each tracker provides a maximum operating input current of 16 A and a DC output charging power of up to 4,000 W. When designing the string configuration, it is also important to note that the PV open-circuit voltage must not exceed eight times the battery float voltage. The temperature-induced voltage rise of the solar modules at low outdoor temperatures must also be taken into account.
Programmable charging curve for 48 V batteries
The multi-stage adaptive charging algorithm can be adapted to the requirements of the battery system in use. A battery voltage sensor and the included battery temperature sensor enable precise measurement of the relevant charging parameters. The battery and battery management system must be rated for a possible charging current of up to 200 A. The remote input allows, among other things, the integration of BMS systems via a charging enable signal.
Configuration and Monitoring with VictronConnect
The charge controller can be set up and monitored using the VictronConnect app via the built-in Bluetooth interface. Operating values such as battery voltage, charging current, PV voltage, and PV current can be accessed directly. The built-in display also shows operating data, device status, and any error codes. VE.Direct and VE.Can are available for wired system integration. Up to 25 compatible charge controllers can be connected via VE.Can, and their charging phases can be synchronized. When used with a GX device, centralized system monitoring and integration with the Victron Remote Management Portal are possible.
Galvanic Isolation and Monitoring of the PV System
Full galvanic isolation between the PV and battery connections ensures electrical separation of both sides of the system. Additionally, the charge controller monitors the insulation resistance between the PV connections and ground. If the value falls below the specified threshold, an error is reported and, if a GX device is connected, forwarded to the monitoring system. The device also features protection against excessively high or low battery voltage as well as against overheating. A programmable relay and two configurable analog or digital inputs are available for additional control and alarm functions.
