The Hoymiles HIT-12L-G3 12 kW 3-Phase Hybrid Inverter (MPN: HIT-12L-G3) is a three-phase low-voltage hybrid inverter designed for high-performance PV and storage systems with both grid-connected and backup power modes. With a rated AC output power of 12,000 W, four independent MPPT trackers, a recommended maximum PV power of 24,000 W, and a battery connection for Li-ion and lead-acid batteries ranging from 40 to 60 V, this model is suitable for high-performance three-phase PV and energy storage systems. Various energy management modes, S-Miles cloud monitoring, and an EPS output with a switching time of less than 10 ms round out the range of features.

Four MPPT trackers and up to 24 kW of PV power
On the PV side, the HIT-12L-G3 features four independent MPPT trackers, each with a single string input. An MPPT continuously adjusts the operating point of the connected solar modules to maximize the available solar power output. Four separate trackers are particularly useful, for example, in larger PV systems with varying roof orientations or differing irradiance conditions. The maximum input current per tracker is 20 A, and the maximum short-circuit current is 30 A. The usable MPPT voltage range extends from 150 to 900 V. The maximum input voltage is specified as 1,000 V, and the turn-on voltage as 150 V. For the HIT-12L-G3, Hoymiles recommends a maximum PV power of 24,000 W. This allows the PV generator to be sized larger than the rated AC power of 12,000 W. The specific string sizing must always remain within the permissible voltage and current limits.
Operating Modes for Self-Consumption and Targeted Storage Control
The intelligent energy management system of the HIT-G3 series supports various strategies for utilizing solar energy and battery storage. These include self-consumption mode, economy mode, backup mode, peak shaving mode, and time-of-use mode. In self-consumption mode, the generated PV energy is first used to power the connected loads. Any surplus can then be used to charge the battery storage system. Peak shaving limits grid draw during power peaks. Time-of-use mode, on the other hand, allows for time-dependent control of charging and discharging processes.
24,000 VA UPS for short-term load peaks
For backup power, the HIT-12L-G3 provides a separate three-phase EPS output. The rated output power here is also 12,000 W, and the maximum continuous output current is 18.2 A. For loads with short-term higher power requirements, the inverter can provide up to 24,000 VA for 10 seconds, provided there is sufficient PV and battery power. The switchover time is less than 10 ms. As a result, loads connected to the EPS output can continue to be powered with a very short switchover time, provided the overall system is properly designed. Which loads can actually be protected depends, among other factors, on load power, inrush currents, battery capacity, and the design of the entire storage system.
Unbalanced Operation in a Three-Phase Grid
The HIT-12L-G3 supports a 100% unbalanced output and can therefore accommodate phases with different loads within the three-phase system. The output power of a single phase can reach up to 50% of the rated power. This is particularly helpful in buildings where electrical loads are not evenly distributed across the three phases.
S-Miles Cloud for Monitoring and System Supervision
The S-Miles Cloud allows you to remotely track operating data from the PV and storage system. The platform is designed to monitor system performance over extended periods and analyze solar power generation and battery usage. Additionally, the inverter features digital inputs and outputs as well as DRM. CAN is used for battery communication.
Wall Mounting and Intelligent Fan Cooling
The HIT-12L-G3 measures 539 × 696 × 232 mm and weighs 41 kg. The unit is designed for wall mounting. Heat dissipation is achieved via an intelligent fan cooling system. The noise level is below 60 dB. The permissible operating temperature range is from -25 to +65 °C, although power output is reduced at temperatures above 45 °C. With an IP66 rating, the housing is protected against dust and powerful water jets.
Integrated Protection Functions
The HIT-12L-G3 features several integrated protection mechanisms for PV and grid operation. These include protection against islanding, PV reverse polarity protection, insulation resistance monitoring, ground fault current monitoring, and AC overcurrent and short-circuit protection. Additionally, AC overvoltage and undervoltage protection, as well as Type II overvoltage protection on both the DC and AC sides, are provided.
