The single-phase X1-IES-6K from SolaX (MPN: 1010120010) is a 6 kW hybrid inverter and also the heart of the X1-IES energy storage system (ESS). It efficiently converts the direct current generated by the solar modules into grid-compliant alternating current. Thanks to its advanced technology, the inverter adapts flexibly to different grid conditions and ensures a stable feed-in. The transformerless design reduces energy losses and increases the overall efficiency of the system. With the ability to feed electricity into the grid and store it in batteries, it offers maximum independence and efficiency for your photovoltaic system, ideal for reliable operation in private and commercial applications. The compatible battery (TP-HS50E) and the associated BMS (TPMS-MCS0800E) must be purchased separately to build a complete IES storage system.

The IES system in harmony

The AI-enabled energy storage system (ESS) combines the 6 kW hybrid inverter, at least one 5.1 kWh LiFePO4 battery, and an intelligent battery management system (BMS) to create an efficient overall solution. You get a system with a modern design, high performance, and reliable safety. The integrated emergency power function ensures that you continue to be supplied with energy even in the event of a power failure. You can also connect solar modules that deliver up to twice as much power as the inverter itself. This allows you to get the most out of your solar system, even in low sunlight conditions. The EPS output provides additional energy for 10 seconds, ensuring that you have a reliable supply even during short-term peak loads. It is already prepared for use with artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual power plants (VPP). It can also be flexibly expanded via plug & play—both with additional batteries and with the option of operating multiple systems in parallel. Furthermore, the ESS is compatible with generators, heat pumps, and chargers for electric vehicles.

Maximum 200% oversizing and 200% PV input power

You can connect solar modules that together have up to twice as much power as the inverter itself. For example: If the inverter has 5 kW, you can connect solar modules with up to 10 kWp. This allows you to generate more electricity even when there is less sun or on cloudy days. The maximum power that the inverter can deliver to the house remains the same, but you can reach this peak power more often. This allows you to get more out of your solar system overall and increase your electricity yield throughout the year.

Tactical scenarios

The system can be connected in several ways, or interconnected. Further information and illustrations can be found in the data sheet in the overview.

  • Partial solution – standard IES system
  • Parallel and generator-integrated solution – one system with two towers connected in parallel
  • Wohle Home backup solution – IES connected to a distribution box (Matebox G2)

Different operating modes

With the X1 IES system, you can set two time periods that control the charging and discharging of your battery: the forced charging period and the permitted discharging period. During the forced charging period, the inverter charges the battery with the highest priority until the desired state of charge is reached, regardless of the selected operating mode. During the permitted discharge period, the battery may discharge power when appropriate, but discharge is not forced. Here you can choose between six operating modes: self-consumption, feed-in priority, backup, and more. This allows you to flexibly adapt the system to your energy needs.

Self-consumption mode
...is particularly suitable if you only receive a low remuneration for fed-in electricity and electricity prices are high. In this mode, you first use the solar power generated for your own household. surplus electricity is then stored in the battery. Only when the battery is full is additional electricity fed into the public grid. The priority is therefore on your consumption, then on charging the battery, and finally on feeding into the grid.

Feed-in priority
...is particularly useful if you receive a high remuneration for electricity fed into the grid. In this mode, you first use the solar power for your own consumption in the house. Any excess power produced is fed into the public grid by the system, allowing you to benefit from the remuneration. Only when there is still more solar power left is the battery charged. The order is therefore: first your household, then the grid, then the battery.

Backup mode
...especially useful if your region experiences frequent power outages. In this mode, the system keeps the battery at a high charge level so that you always have enough energy available in an emergency. This allows you to continue using your most important devices even when the public power grid fails. The functionality is similar to self-consumption mode, but with the difference that the battery is specifically kept in reserve for emergencies.

EPS (off-grid)
...In the event of a power failure, the system continues to reliably supply your most important devices (EPS consumers) with energy – either directly from the solar system or from the battery. The prerequisite is that a battery is installed and the connected devices do not require more power than the system can provide. The solar power generated is first used to power your devices. Any surplus power is then used to charge the battery. The priority is therefore to power your devices first and then charge the battery.

Peak shaving mode
...ensures that peaks in electricity consumption in your household are balanced out. The system automatically charges the battery during periods when little electricity is being consumed. If electricity consumption in the house is particularly high, the battery releases energy, thereby reducing the load on the power grid. This allows you to avoid expensive peak loads and use your electricity particularly efficiently.

TOU mode (Time-of-Use)
...you can use the SolaX Cloud app or the web to specify exactly how your system should operate at different times of the day. You can divide the day into up to 24 time slots, each lasting at least 15 minutes. For each time slot, you can individually select whether the system should switch to self-consumption, charging, discharging, peak load operation, or battery shutdown, for example. This allows you to optimally adapt your energy management to your daily routine and different electricity tariffs. Detailed setup instructions can be found in the web guide or in the app.

Finally, the Smart Scene function allows you to set up intelligent processes and automations for your energy management. This function allows you to specify how the system should respond in certain situations or at certain times. For example, you can set the battery to charge automatically when a particularly large amount of solar power is being generated, or set certain devices to only be supplied with power when electricity prices are low. It is also possible to switch automatically between different operating modes. This allows the system to adapt optimally to your individual needs and energy consumption and ensures efficient use of your solar system.

Intelligent load management

This automatically and efficiently controls your household electricity consumption. The system continuously monitors how much electricity is currently being consumed and how much solar energy is being generated. It can activate large consumers such as heat pumps or charging stations for electric cars in a targeted manner when a particularly large amount of solar power is available. This allows you to make optimal use of the electricity you generate yourself and reduce your consumption of expensive grid electricity. At the same time, intelligent load management helps to avoid power peaks and make sensible use of the battery. For you, this means that your energy consumption is automatically adjusted so that you save costs and your solar system is used as efficiently as possible at all times – without any additional effort.

Integrated shadow tracking function

This ensures that your solar system produces as much electricity as possible, even in partial shade. For example, if individual solar modules are shaded by trees, chimneys, or other obstacles, the system automatically detects this. The inverter then adjusts its operation to ensure that the energy yield remains as high as possible. This allows you to get the most out of your solar system even in difficult lighting conditions and benefit from consistently high electricity production, even if not all modules are always completely exposed to the sun.

Microgrid

Normally, grid-connected inverters do not supply power when the public grid fails, even if your solar system continues to generate energy. The microgrid function of the X1-IES series solves this problem. It simulates its own power grid and thus activates your grid-connected inverter even in the event of a power failure. By connecting the grid-connected inverter to the EPS connection of the X1-IES system, you can continue to use solar or battery power even when the public grid is unavailable. This ensures that you have a reliable supply of energy even during power outages.

This allows you to optimize the efficiency of your power consumption and get the most out of your solar system. Your data is transmitted securely and reliably at all times. With the Monitoring Cloud app, you can conveniently monitor your photovoltaic system via Wi-Fi, LAN, or 4G. You can view alarms, adjust settings, and control maintenance. To do this, plug the dongle into the USB port of the inverter. Once switched on, you can connect to the app immediately. You will find the QR code for downloading the app in the user manual.
