Offgridtec’s backup systems are ideal for emergency power supply or for expanding an existing solar system. In addition to lithium-ion batteries from Pylontech, the systems include a compatible MultiPlus-II inverter and a Cerbo GX MK2 from Victron Energy for system monitoring. This allows you to ensure your power supply even in the event of a power outage.
Thanks to the UPS function, the MultiPlus remains powered on even during a grid failure and takes over powering the connected loads. The switchover occurs so quickly (in less than 20 milliseconds) that uninterrupted operation of computers and other electronic devices is guaranteed.
Applications of the Offgridtec Backup Kit:
- Emergency power supply
- Off-grid solar systems (stand-alone systems)
- Retrofitting of existing PV systems
- Grid-connected power supply
- UPS systems
What does the Offgridtec backup system include?
- Pylontech US3000C 3.5kWh LiFePO4 battery ( 2x, 4x, or 6x depending on selection)
- 3x Victron MultiPlus-II 48/5000/70-50 230V unit combination
- 1x Victron Lynx Distributor
- 1x Victron Lynx Power In (M10)
- 1x Victron Cerbo GX MK2 control panel
- 1x Victron GX Touch 50 display panel for Cerbo GX
- 1x Victron MK3-USB Ve.Bus to USB Interface
- 1x 1.8m VE.Can to CAN-Bus BMS Type A Cable
- 2x 0.9m Victron RJ45 UTP cable
- 1x 3m Victron RJ45 UTP cable
- 3x 1m Offgridtec battery cable 50mm² M8 eyelets
- 1x Set of 5 MEGA fuses 200A 70V
- Pylontech battery connection cable set (1x, 2x, or 3x depending on selection)
Expanded use of your backup system
To set up an ESS (Energy Storage System) with the backup system, an energy meter with a connection cable is required:
With this energy meter, you can perform a grid-parallel installation and subsequently monitor your energy consumption or control your energy costs. Thanks to phase compensation, you can even use the 3-phase meter for 1-phase systems. This makes seamless integration of decentralized energy sources and consumers into the existing power grid a breeze.
To ensure an ESS can be included in the pre-configuration, the meter must be purchased in advance or as part of the system!
The Storage Solution – Pylontech US3000C Batteries
The US3000C storage unit is a latest-generation lithium battery. It was specifically designed to meet the high demands placed on backup storage systems. Thanks to state-of-the-art technology, maximum safety and a long service life are guaranteed, even with regular deep discharges.
- Extremely cycle-stable – over 6,000 cycles at 95% DoD
- Absolutely intrinsically safe lithium technology
- High charge and discharge performance possible
- Integrated BMS
- Very high energy density – low weight and compact design
- Completely maintenance-free and long-lasting
- Pre-charge function to protect the ESS system from overvoltage
The electronic core – the Victron Multiplus-II unit combination
The Multiplus-II 48/5000/70-50 is a high-end device combination from Victron Energy (MPN PMP482505010) that combines classic Multiplus components with an external current sensor and integrated anti-islanding function. This extends the PowerControl and PowerAssist functions to 100 A and broadens the potential scope of application to ESS applications. The inverter module delivers a full 5000 W under non-linear load, or 4000 W under continuous linear load. The 48 V battery charger is also very well-proportioned with a 70 A charging capacity and is complemented by a 50 A transfer switch that allows for lightning-fast switching back and forth between the AC connections.
Key features of the Multiplus-II 48/5000/70-50
- PowerControl and PowerAssist – Boosting grid or generator power
- Built-in anti-islanding function and connection option for an external current sensor (optional)
- Can be used as a backup device in grid-connected systems to provide power during grid outages
- Suitable for various ESS (Energy Storage System) applications
- Ideally suited for professional maritime applications, yachts, vehicles, and land-based, off-grid applications
- VE.Bus interface for parallel and three-phase operation, remote monitoring, and system integration
- Virtually unlimited power output through parallel and three-phase operation
- Can be configured on-site or remotely using VEConfigure software
Always enough power thanks to PowerControl and PowerAssist
On the MultiPlus-II 48/5000/70-50, a maximum grid or generator current can be set. The MultiPlus-II then takes into account other connected AC loads and uses only the current that is “left over” to charge the battery. This prevents the generator or grid connection from being overloaded (PowerControl function). The PowerAssist function takes the PowerControl principle to a new level. Load peaks often occur only for a limited period of time. In such cases, the MultiPlus-II immediately compensates for insufficient generator, shore power, or grid output by drawing energy from the battery. When the load is reduced—i.e., when loads are turned off—the energy that is then once again available can be used to charge the batteries.
Maximum flexibility thanks to two AC outputs
The main output ensures uninterrupted operation. In the event of a grid failure or an interruption in shore power or generator power, the MultiPlus-II takes over the supply to the connected loads. The switchover occurs so quickly (in less than 20 milliseconds) that uninterrupted operation of computers and other electronic devices is guaranteed. The second output supplies power only when AC is available at the MultiPlus-II input. Loads that must not discharge the battery, such as a water heater, can be connected to this output.
Remote Configuration and Monitoring
Install a Color Control GX or other GX products to connect to the Internet. Operating data can be stored and viewed free of charge on our VRM (Victron Remote Management) website. If systems are connected to the Internet, they can be accessed remotely and settings can be changed.
The MultiPlus-II is shipped unconfigured by default. You can find the configuration guide for the system here in the download area. If you would like us to pre-configure the system for you, we are happy to do so for an additional fee. To request this, add the item "Offgridtec Pre-configuration" (linked above) to your cart during the ordering process. In this case, shipping may take 3–5 business days longer until the configuration has been completed.
