The IES System in Harmony

This AI-enabled energy storage system (ESS) combines a 3680 W hybrid inverter, at least one 5.1 kWh LiFePO4 battery, and an intelligent battery management system (BMS) into an efficient all-in-one solution. You get a system with a modern design, high performance, and reliable safety. The integrated emergency power function ensures that you continue to have a power supply even during a power outage. You can also connect solar panels that deliver up to twice as much power as the inverter itself. This allows you to get the most out of your solar system, even when sunlight is low. The EPS output provides additional power for 10 seconds, ensuring a reliable supply even during short-term peak loads. It is already prepared for use with artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual power plants (VPP). It can also be flexibly expanded via Plug & Play—both by adding additional batteries and by operating multiple systems in parallel. Furthermore, the ESS is compatible with generators, heat pumps, and chargers for electric vehicles.

Maximum 200% oversizing and 200% PV input power

You can connect solar modules that, combined, have up to twice the power output of the inverter itself. For example: If the inverter is rated at 5 kW, you can connect solar modules with a total capacity of up to 10 kWp. This allows you to generate more electricity even when there’s less sunlight or on cloudy days. Although the maximum power the inverter can deliver to your home remains the same, you’ll reach this peak output more frequently. This allows you to get more out of your solar system overall and increase your electricity yield throughout the year.

System Configuration Scenarios

The system can be connected or linked together in several ways. You’ll find more information and diagrams in the data sheet overview.

  • Partial Solution—Standard IES System
  • Parallel and Generator-Integrated Solution—a system with 2 towers connected in parallel
  • Wohle Home Backup Solution—IES connected to a distribution box (Matebox G2)

Various Operating Modes

With the X1-IES system, you can set two time periods that control the charging and discharging of your battery: the forced charging period and the permitted discharging period. During the forced charging period, the inverter charges the battery with the highest priority until the desired state of charge is reached, regardless of the selected operating mode. During the permitted discharge period, the battery may supply power when appropriate, but discharge is not forced. Here, you can choose from six operating modes: Self-Consumption, Grid Feed-in Priority, Backup, and more. This allows you to flexibly adapt the system to your energy needs.

Self-Consumption Mode
...is particularly suitable if you receive only a low feed-in tariff for electricity fed into the grid and electricity prices are high. In this mode, you first use the solar power generated for your own household. Excess electricity is then stored in the battery. Only when the battery is full is additional electricity fed into the public grid. The priority is therefore your consumption, followed by charging the battery, and finally feeding power into the grid.

Grid-Feed Priority
...is particularly useful if you receive a high feed-in tariff for the electricity you feed into the grid. In this mode, you first use the solar power for your own household consumption. Any excess production is fed into the public grid by the system, allowing you to benefit from the feed-in tariff. Only when there is even more solar power left over is the battery charged. So the order is: first your household, then the grid, then the battery.

Backup Mode
...especially useful if power outages are common in your region. In this mode, the system maintains the battery at a high charge level so that you always have enough energy available in an emergency. This allows you to continue using your most important devices even if the public power grid goes down. It works similarly to self-consumption mode, but with the difference that the battery is specifically reserved as a backup for emergencies.

EPS (Off-Grid)
...In the event of a power outage, the system continues to reliably supply your most important devices (EPS loads) with power—either directly from the solar system or from the battery. This requires that a battery be installed and that the connected devices do not require more power than the system can provide at maximum capacity. The solar power generated is first used to power your devices. Any excess power is then used to charge the battery. The priority is therefore to power your devices first and then charge the battery.

Peak-Shaving Mode
...ensures that peaks in electricity consumption in your household are balanced out. The system automatically charges the battery during periods of low electricity consumption. When electricity consumption in the home is particularly high, the battery releases energy, thereby reducing the load on the power grid. This way, you avoid expensive peak loads and use your electricity particularly efficiently.

TOU Mode (Time-of-Use)
...using the SolaX Cloud app or the web, you can precisely specify how your system should operate at different times of the day. You can divide the day into up to 24 time slots, with each slot lasting at least 15 minutes. For each time slot, you can individually select whether the system should switch to, for example, self-consumption, charging, discharging, peak load operation, or battery shutdown. This allows you to optimally adapt your energy management to your daily routine and to different electricity rates. Detailed setup instructions can be found in the Web Guide or in the app.

Finally, the Smart Scene feature allows you to set up intelligent workflows and automations for your energy management. With this feature, you can specify how the system should respond in certain situations or at specific times. For example, you can configure the system to automatically charge the battery when a particularly high amount of solar power is being generated, or to power certain devices only when electricity prices are low. Automatic switching between different operating modes is also possible. This allows the system to adapt optimally to your individual needs and energy consumption, ensuring efficient use of your solar system.

Smart Load Management

This feature automatically and efficiently controls your household electricity consumption. The system continuously monitors how much electricity is currently being used and how much solar energy is being generated. It can specifically activate high-power consumers—such as heat pumps or electric vehicle charging stations—when there is a particularly high supply of solar power available. This allows you to make the most of the electricity you generate yourself and reduce your reliance on expensive grid power. At the same time, the smart load management helps prevent power spikes and ensures the battery is used effectively. For you, this means: Your energy consumption is automatically adjusted so that you save money and your solar system is used as efficiently as possible at all times—without any extra effort on your part.

Integrated Shade Tracking Function

This feature ensures that your solar system produces as much electricity as possible, even when partially shaded. For example, if individual solar panels are shaded by trees, chimneys, or other obstacles, the system automatically detects this. The inverter then adjusts its operation to maintain the best possible energy yield. This way, you get the most out of your solar system even under challenging lighting conditions and benefit from consistently high electricity production, even if not all modules are always fully exposed to the sun.

Microgrid

Normally, grid-tied inverters do not supply electricity when the public grid goes down—even if your solar system continues to generate energy. The microgrid function of the X1-IES series solves this problem. It simulates its own power grid, thereby activating your grid-tied inverter even during a power outage. If you connect the grid-tied inverter to the EPS port of the X1-IES system, you can continue to use solar or battery power even when the public grid is unavailable. This ensures you have a reliable energy supply even during power outages.

This allows you to optimize the efficiency of your power consumption and get the most out of your solar system. Your data is transmitted securely and reliably at all times. With the Monitoring Cloud app, you can conveniently monitor your photovoltaic system via Wi-Fi, LAN, or 4G. You can view alerts, adjust settings, and manage maintenance. To do this, plug the dongle into the inverter’s USB port. Once powered on, you can connect to the app immediately. You’ll find the QR code to download the app in the user manual.
