Offgridtec's balcony power plants offer a practical solution for generating part of the electricity required for the household yourself, thereby significantly reducing the costs for total electricity consumption. The system comprises two solar modules, a suitable micro inverter including a DTU control unit, and an AC connection cable that connects the inverter to a power outlet. The modules are designed so that they can be installed directly next to each other.
How does a balcony power plant work?
The Offgridtec balcony power plant is a space-saving solar system consisting of a solar module and a matching Hoymiles micro inverter to feed the generated electricity into the in-house power grid. Ideally, the inverter is attached directly to the substructure of the solar module and connected to the module with the solar connector. The AC cable is connected via the inverter's battery connection and routed directly to the appropriate socket. You can choose between a conventional Schuko socket and a Wieland feed-in socket, which is included in the scope of delivery. No special settings are required to use the solar power generated in the home's power grid. If power is available from other sources in the home, this is used preferentially and supplemented by grid power if necessary.
The complete balcony power plant system includes:
- 4x Trina Solar 450W Vertex S+ double-glass N-type TopCon solar module
- 1x Hoymiles HMS-1600-4T microinverter module inverter
- 1x Hoymiles DTU-Lite-S WLAN data transmission unit for HMT/HMS
- In order to be able to change settings in addition to monitoring, a DTU Pro-S is required instead of the DTU-Lite-S (not included in the scope of delivery).
- 1x Hoymiles HMS connection cable 3x1.5mm² Plug&Play 10m
- 4x MC4 to MC4 6mm² 2m connection cable
Trina Solar Vertex S+ 450W solar module
The Trina Solar Vertex S+ (MPN: TSM-450 NEG9R.28) is a 450W double-glass solar module with N-type i-TOPCon cells. The high-density connection and multi-busbar technology ensure high efficiency of 22.5%, improved absorption, and low degradation. It is certified for snow loads up to 5400 Pa and wind loads up to 4000 Pa and offers long-term stable yields thanks to its robust construction and 0/+5W power tolerance.

Hoymiles HMS-1600-4T module inverter
The HMS-1600-4T (MPN: HMS-1600-4T) from Hoymiles is the perfect micro inverter for your balcony power plant. This compact, lightweight device (weighing only 5.56 kg) is suitable for solar power generation with up to four solar panels, each with an output of 320 W to 540 W+. Just like all other micro inverters from Hoymiles, it is suitable for long operating hours and a wide range of PV module applications, as its start voltage is very low (only 22V) and the DC input range of the operating voltage (16-60V) is extremely wide.

Balcony power plants in Germany
There is currently no law or regulation in Germany governing the generation of solar power for purely personal use. The maximum limit of 600W AC PV power is a reserve value which, according to the current VDE standard, can be fed into an existing power outlet circuit in a house without overloading it. There are no specifications for independent circuits without additional load. All electrical installations should be carried out in accordance with VDE standards. However, the operation of a balcony power plant via a standard Schuko socket is not prohibited. Registration with the Federal Network Agency is mandatory. However, there are no known cases of fines for failure to register balcony power plants, nor are there any insurmountable problems with grid operators. Compliance with and implementation of standards and obligations is the responsibility of the plant operator. A wealth of technical and legal information on this subject can be found on relevant websites.

Inverter.
