A Victron MultiPlus is a combination of a sine-wave inverter, battery charger, and transfer switch all in a single enclosure. This combination makes it extremely versatile: You can use it just as easily in grid-connected self-consumption systems as you can on the go in a RV or on a boat. In total, we offer 28 models across three series, which differ in power output and features.
MultiPlus – the Classic Series
The standard MultiPlus series covers a wide power range, from compact 48/800/9-16 models for smaller systems to high-performance 24/5000/120-100 variants for larger systems. You can choose them with either 12V, 24V, or 48V input voltage to match your battery system. If space is limited, opt for the MultiPlus C (Compact), which packs the same technology into a more compact enclosure—such as the MultiPlus C 12/1600/70-16.
MultiPlus-II – the High-End Series
The MultiPlus-II series complements the classic MultiPlus components with an external current sensor and an integrated anti-islanding function for safe grid-parallel operation. Models with the “GX” suffix, such as the MultiPlus-II 48/5000/70-50 GX, also feature integrated system monitoring. At the top of the line is the MultiPlus-II 48/10000/140-100 for large solar systems and commercial applications, featuring up to 200A charging current and a 100A transfer switch for fast switching between AC connections.
Accessories for your MultiPlus system
For grid-parallel operation of the MultiPlus-II models, you’ll typically need a 100A:50mA current transformer—available in various cable lengths—as well as an optional temperature sensor to protect your battery. You can find the complete selection of accessories in our MultiPlus Accessories category.
-
What is a Victron MultiPlus and what is it used for?
A MultiPlus combines an inverter, battery charger, and transfer switch in a single unit. It powers your 230V loads from the battery and charges the battery at the same time as soon as grid or generator power is available.
-
What distinguishes the MultiPlus from the MultiPlus-II?
The MultiPlus-II also features an external current sensor and an anti-islanding function, making it designed for grid-parallel operation with power feed-back—the classic MultiPlus is intended for mobile and simple backup applications.
-
What is the difference between the MultiPlus and the MultiPlus C (Compact)?
Technically, both are comparable; however, the MultiPlus C has a more compact design and is therefore particularly suitable for applications with limited space, such as in a motorhome or boat.
-
How quickly does the MultiPlus switch over during a power outage?
The transfer switch switches from grid to battery power in under 20 milliseconds—for most connected devices, this interruption is imperceptible.
-
What is the current transformer used for in the MultiPlus-II?
It measures the actual grid current and is required for functions such as grid parallel operation with feed-back or proper power limiting.
-
Which voltage—12V, 24V, or 48V—should I choose?
That depends on your battery system: 12V is suitable for smaller mobile systems, 24V for medium-sized systems, and 48V for larger residential systems with higher power requirements and lower line losses.
-
Can I connect multiple MultiPlus units in parallel?
Yes, many MultiPlus models can be connected in parallel or in a three-phase array via VE.Bus to achieve higher power output. Check the technical specifications for your specific model.
