When a PWM Controller Is the Right Choice
A PWM controller connects the module to the battery in pulses. This works well when the module and battery voltages match—for example, a 12V module with 36 cells connected to a 12V battery. If your module has a significantly higher voltage, you’ll be wasting energy with a PWM controller. In that case, a small MPPT controller is the better choice.
Load Output
The PWM-Light controllers have a load output. You can connect small loads, such as lighting, to this output. If the battery gets too low, the controller shuts off the output.
FAQ – BlueSolar PWM-Light
What size do I need?
Divide the module power by the battery voltage. A 100-Wp module at 12V delivers about 8 A—the 10-A controller is sufficient for this.
Can I connect a 60-cell module?
This isn’t practical with a 12V battery. The module voltage is too high; a PWM controller can’t utilize it. Use an MPPT controller instead.
Does the controller recognize 12V and 24V?
Yes, the controller adjusts to either 12V or 24V. The module and battery must have the same voltage.
What’s the difference between this and the PWM-Pro?
The PWM-Pro can be freely adjusted via remote control or USB cable and adapted to different battery types. The PWM-Light operates with fixed settings.
